Being proactive with your health and wellbeing in the postpartum time is a wonderful thing you can do for yourself as well as your new-to-this-world little one! Exercise and strength training are encouraged postpartum to regain strength and return to your prior level of fitness but must be done with caution. There are many new things happening in your body in the postpartum time that you are not used to. Your old way of lifting/running/exercising might need to be adjusted to accommodate the changes that your body has gone through over the past 9+ months.
At Verity Physical Therapy & Wellness, we are trained specifically to treat the new momma and her body that is re-adapting to life postpartum. We are also experienced in strengthening and general orthopedic physical therapy. With those two areas of expertise we are able to help guide the postpartum momma through the postpartum time period safely and appropriately.
Depending on where you are postpartum, treatment sessions may include internal exams to ensure you are able to contract and (more importantly) relax and stretch your pelvic floor muscles, general hip, core and lower extremity strength and mobility screen to determine if there are any areas that need more attention, and a continued discussion of potential aches and pains that may arise as you move forward. We will equip you with exercises and stretches to do that are pertinent to the number of weeks you are postpartum and work with you to reach your activity goals in a safe way that will set you up for success and reduced likelihood of injury.
